Sonic Uno was first started under a contest between Super and Robjoe to see whom could create the better hack all on their own. Super, excited with the project, quickly got underway redesigning Marble Zone while Robjoe put it off. On day 2 of the contest, Robjoe immediately forfeited, claiming art could not be more foreign to him. Super, already the victor, liked the direction he had taken and decided to put off his floundering S3K hack, Final Hope.

Tohaka is the official "sequel" of Sonic 2 Ultima. Ultima worked on Sonic 2 Ultima originally to get a feel for Sonic modifications in general, and as a kind of practice run. Once he felt that he was experienced enough, he moved on to begin this modification, whilst announcing the discontinuation of his previous modification project.

Tohaka began as a quest to show everyone a modification that looked and played just as well as the original games did. It was originally going to be named after the word "Perfect" in Japanese, due to the creator's obsession with anything Japanese. However, it was quickly discovered that using an actual Japanese name, while original, would be very confusing in presentation, and thus the name "Tohaka" was born. The word Tohaka itself does not mean anything, but through association has been commonly related to the idea of a high quality piece of work.

Currently, Ultima is reaching out in new directions with this hack, and rather than concentrating on finishing more level designs (which appear to be his forte), he seems to be exploring the more technical aspects of modification, such as adding an "Emerald Hunt" system in place of the game's special stages in the same way that the Game Gear and Master System Sonic titles worked.

In terms of level design, Tohaka has been constantly praised for its elegant and professional designs and the continuity and speed of the levels. People were especially pleased when they saw the result of a 7 month gap, in which no releases were made but lots of work went on behind the scenes. The results astonished many, and at the time some even considered it to be the best modification ever made.

Sonic 2 Time Attack is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit) by redhotsonic. It goes without saying, but it will be said regardless: This a Time Attack edition of the game, in which the object of the hack is to play through the zones/acts of Sonic 2 as fast as you can and set the best time records possible. Once you've completed an act, the game will record your time, provided you beat your record.

Sonic the Hedgehog Thrash is a ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by DalekSam, though it was originally a hack of Sonic 1. It also uses the Sonic 2 Clone Driver.

You can also play as Knuckles, credit given to Spanner for the Knuckles object among other things. Honestly, I tried doing it myself but I failed, hard.

As of August 2013, the project has since been rebooted from scratch.

Super Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog is hack by Puto which adds the ability to turn into Super Sonic when obtaining all the Chaos Emeralds or using a button code. Although other people have incorporated Super Sonic into their Sonic hacks, this hack's main purpose is to add the ability to transform into Super Sonic. Super Sonic's abilities from Sonic 3 & Knuckles were added in addition to using the Super Sonic sprites of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Super Sonic in Sonic 3D is a hack of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island made by Sik. This hack allows the player to turn into Super Sonic in said game after collecting all sevenChaos Emeralds, mimicking its prequels Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. The rules are borrowed from the latter two games, so the player must double jump to transform and also must not have a shield in that moment, besides the basic requirements (having all emeralds and 50 rings).

All of Super Sonic's behaviour is implemented: a custom palette, a transformation pose with a fading palette, invincibility (with stars), speed shoes and a music change upon transformation. Rings drain while transformed as well. Super Sonic can still be killed by getting crushed by some falling platforms, however, so he isn't completely immune to death.

This hack is based off Sonic 3D: No Flickies, and as such it shares the same gameplay rules.

Stella the Cat is a fan-made ROM of the game Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, featuring a fan-made character called Stella the Cat (aka Stella Hoshine). She replaces the main character, Sonic.

The author of the hack had planned to alter the levels further with palette recoloring and level redesign but instead decided against working on the hack further.

South Island Adventure is a large scale hack of Sonic the Hedgehog by Hivebrain, featuring Espio the Chameleon. It has new sprites, several new levels, and numerous other alterations.

Twin Cobra, released in Japan as Kyukyoku Tiger (究極タイガー, Kyūkyoku Taigā), is a 1987 helicopter-themed shoot 'em up arcade game developed by Toaplan. It was published by Taito Corporation in Japan, and by Romstar in North America, and is one of Toaplan's most popular arcade games. It is a spiritual sequel to Tiger-Heli, and is itself followed by Twin Cobra II.

Super Battleship is a naval simulator video game released for the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo in 1993. The game is strictly single-player and is primarily a strategy game with some real-time elements. It is based on the Battleship board game by the Milton Bradley Company.

soniNeko is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by nineko. It is notable because of its extended playlist, which not only completely replaces all the songs from the original game, but also introduces several new songs, bringing the grand total to 71 (instead of 22 as in the original Sonic 1); most of those songs are conversions from MIDI and MOD files (as a demonstration of xm2smps/xm3smps capabilities), and a small amount of them are conversions from games that use the Cube/Iwadare sound engine. None of those songs have been converted from other games that use the SMPS sound system, something soniNeko is still unique for.

Sonic 2 Secret Rings Edition is a hack of Sonic 2 by MainMemory. It features no new art or level layouts, and few new features, instead adding replayability to the original game by adding various missions that you can attempt to complete, although there are several levels where completing certain missions is impossible, and some levels where it is impossible to lose.

Sonic 2 Secret Rings Control is a hack of Sonic 2 by MainMemory. It changes the controls to a style similar to Sonic and the Secret Rings, where Sonic moves forward automatically.

Sonic 1: The Special Stages is a hack of Sonic 1 by SonicVaan. This hack removes standard Sonic gameplay and replaces it with the Special Stages which normally were only accessible by the Giant Rings at the end of each stage.

The actual special stage layouts have been touched for every stage.

This hack is actually on hold. Future releases are not to be expected.

Sonic 1: Painto Edition 2 (or simply Sonic: Painto Edition 2) is a modification of Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit), and the first part of the Paintifisation project, made byPainto maniak. The hack contains many features, and is named 'Panto Edition 2' to separate itself from Painto maniak's previous hack; Sonic: Painto Edition (later renamed Sonic: Christmas Island).

Sonic 2 SMTP is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made by SMTP. The hack is an ASM/Layout hack with a couple of new features.

Sonic and the Secret Extended Edition (previously known as Sonic 1: The Other Extended Edition, not to be confused with Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition) is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Hayate. It was discontinued in August 2008, after Hayate gave up on the hack due to the various bugs it had, but it was picked up again in December 2009.

Sally Acorn in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (aka Sally in Sonic 2) is a fan-made ROM of the game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, with Princess Sally Acorn as a playable character in place of Sonic the Hedgehog

The game was modified by Sonic Retro member E-122-Psi, with additional programming and coding by other members including MainMemory, Qiuu and Snkenjoi.

Sonic the Hedgehog Revelation (or Sonic Revelation) is a hack of Sonic 1 by Animemaster. This hack has many features and will continue to increase them, while the product is under way. It also plans a new zone, made of instruments known as music land. Although the creator hasn't decided on whether the art would be good enough yet. The hack contains the three hedgehogs Sonic, Shadow, Silver as they join to face Eggman once again.
