Sonic Green Snake V 4

Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition is a hack in progress by Cinossu of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. In this version of the game, instead of new or fully edited zones, all the original zones are kept intact with minor editing to the acts. Instead, this hack extends the game beyond its original capabilities, including a zone map with warp rings to each act (much like in Sonic Advance 3), saving via SRAM slots (like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3), obtainable upgrades such as the Spin Dash and Super PeelOut (like in the Megaman X series) as well as a new type of ring, emerald, and special stage to add to the mix.

While work has not been shown on the hack for a while publicly, a lot of work goes on in private. This is mostly Cinossu either restarting the entire thing from scratch (currently on the 5th restart since conception), or constantly adding and refining new features and ideas. The latest restart is most likely the last one, however, as the disassembly is now so modular that the various chunks can be restarted rather than the entire hack.

Many changes in order to enhance the original game. Most notably this includes having the lost Round 6 hidden areas and the deleted motorbike stages restored into the game! Finally, we can play Bare Knuckle III uncut, as it was originally intended! At the time of release this was still a work-in-progress, so naturally there are still some bugs. Unfortunately the team has discontinued work on this groundbreaking hack for now.

Sonic 2: S3 Editon is an assembly hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by Alriightyman for the Sega Mega Drive. It places the levels of Sonic 2 into the engine of Sonic the Hedgehog 3; providing many of its features, including Act transitions, a Sonic 3 Save Screen, and Tails ability to fly.

Sonic 2 Adventure Edition is a hack of Sonic 2 by MainMemory, based on Sonic 2 Adventure Control. It transplants various gameplay mechanics from Sonic Adventure to Sonic 2.

Sonic Boom is a total modification of Sonic 2, created by snkenjoi and iojnekns, along with a wide array of talented contributors. As of the Seventh Annual Hacking Contest, this collective is referred to as SÆGA.

Sonic 2 Long Version (which is released alongside Sonic 2 & Knuckles Long Version) is a more complete version of Sonic 2, which makes it somewhat similar to Sonic 2 Delta. This hack features four levels originally scrapped during Sonic 2's development. No levels have been changed, only added. This hack was written in hex, without the aid of any special hacking programs, because the creator uses a Mac, and no hacking tools had been released on that platform at the time of development.

Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (aka Amy in Sonic 2) is a character swap hack Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, with character Amy Rose as playable character in place of Sonic the Hedgehog. The game's sprites (modified from Sonic CD) use Amy's initial design prior to Sonic Adventure.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Pink Edition is a character swap hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, with Amy Rose and Cream the Rabbit replacing Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails respectively. Amy Rose's sprites are designed after her modern look. Amy Rose with classic-style sprites is available to play in the Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hack.

The game was modified by Sonic Retro Member E-122-Psi, with additional programming and coding by other members including MarkeyJester, MainMemory, FraGag, Selbi, and Hayate. Most programming unique from Amy In Sonic 2 such as Cream the Rabbit's gameplay was implemented by Flamewing.

Sonic 1 With Fries is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by Team Fries. The last version was released in October 2009.

Sonic 1 Special Version is Sonic the Hedgehog hack made by EditChris.

Sonic ERaZor is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) created by Selbi. This hack is unlike many other hacks, featuring a heavy in-game story line, unique challenges, and never seen before gameplay mechanics. These elements are often somehow related to explosions, which is why this hack is sometimes called "What if Michael Bay directed Sonic 1".

When first released back in early 2010, Selbi stated that this hack has no goal whatsoever and any ideas he came up with just went in. Today's releases have a lot more structure and thought out gameplay elements. The difficulty has been steadily decreased between the different versions, mostly due to some negative feedback regarding the first releases, although they all have an above average difficulty, and is therefore regarded by many as quite interesting and challenging, if not frustrating.

A notable aspect about this hack is that it contains many cutscenes, chapter screens and story screens. The game's first scene after the title screen is entirely a cutscene.

Sonic 2: Advanced Edit is a Sonic 2 hack created by rika_chou. The latest release features 3 new levels. Other (incomplete) levels can be accessed by using the level select menu. As of release 3, Sonic 2: Advanced Edit has officially been discontinued.

Sonic 3 Complete is a hack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles which aims to provide a much improved variant of the original game, with many new options and features, without straying from the original levels or gameplay. The inclusion of separate modes for Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Blue Sphere also make this a close cousin of the PC compilation Sonic & Knuckles Collection, albeit designed for the original 16-bit hardware.
